Cultural heritage Château Saint André

Présentation

A fine example of the beautiful residences inhabited by Huguenot gentlemen in the second half of the 16th and early 17th centuries. A hotbed of the Reformation, the château was built and rebuilt at the end of the 16th century.

One of its owners, Raymond de Marcel-Blain, Seigneur du Poët Celard, is said to have received Calvin himself here in September 1561, when he celebrated the Lord's Supper before an assembly of lords. Two objects, a bust of the Reformer and a Hungarian grey crystal cup in which Calvin is said to have celebrated the Lord's Supper, recall this event.
