Cobonne
Présentation
Nice little medieval village, Cobonne is nestled at the foot of the Vercors fortresses. In June 44, Cobonne was bombed and almost abandoned.
But since 1984, enthusiasts have been working on its rebirth with a concern for authenticity.
Heading up the Sye valley, on the "grande draille" pathway, where transhumant herds used to pass on their way to the Ambel mountains, you come to Cobonne, a hilltop village with a rural feel. Of the castle itself, no trace remains, just 2 round towers on the route of the 14th-century enclosure, which numbered 9, and the keep, also cylindrical and curiously interwoven with the Saint-Pierre church. Dating from the end of the 11th century, this church is typical of the first rural churches in the region. In the 19th century, an unusual stone bead factory and a silk mill brought the village to life.
Today, the village has been restored, and residents and visitors alike can admire the remarkable work that has gone into restoring it.
