Cultural heritage Eglise d’Aouste sur Sye

Présentation

A church built from 1862 to 1878 in the town centre by architects Bossan and Rey.

Since the time of Louis XIV (1638 - 1715), the church has stood on the site of today's Place de la Poste. In 1862, construction of the bridge over the Drôme (in place of the Roman bridge) and the creation of an avenue to access the departmental road necessitated the destruction of the church. From 1862 to 1878, services were held in a shed lent by a Protestant. After much discussion about the location of the church, architects Bossan and Rey (Lyon architects: Fourvière basilica, Ourches church...) managed the project. The church was completed in 1878. A few years later, in 1886, lightning struck the bell tower. In 1894, the original bell dating from 1754 fell into the steeple, and was replaced by a bell cast in the Paccard workshops in Annecy le Vieux. In 1988, the church was completely cleaned and repaired, a process which lasted several months.
