In the Middle Age, Eygluy was a huge pastoral. The Revolution turned it into one district which merged with Escoulin in 1971. The district of Eygluy Escoulin is located on two valleys.
At the outset, there were 2 communes, Eygluy, meaning Eagle Mountain, and Escoulin.
Thanks to the discovery of two coins, we know that there was a Gaulish presence at l'Escoulin.
The 1st inhabitants of Eygluy were vocontians (Gallic people) who submitted to the yoke of Rome, which left them their political systems and cults.
In the Middle Ages, Eygluy referred to an immense mandement stretching as far north as Léoncel and Font d'Urle.
L'Escoulin was the main hamlet of the commune of Le Cheylard.
In the 14th century, there was a castle on this territory.
In Eygluy, the fortified village, now a fortified castle, is perched on Mont Eygluy near the Col de Véraut.
Before 1790, Le Cheylard was united with Eygluy, which was in the fief of the Counts of Valentinois. Le Cheylard took the name of Escoulin in 1920. The two villages merged in 1971.
