Aurel is a small village with narrow streets and a pretty 11th-century church, perched on a hill in the middle of a marl-limestone mountain cirque. It enjoys a remarkable view of the surrounding vineyards and mountains.
In the 19th century, Aurel became famous for its mineral water, from which up to 120,000 bottles a year were drawn at the time: the building housing the spring catchment, with its ornate iron lintel, can still be seen today. Today, the village's economy is based mainly on vineyards for the production of Clairette de Die.

The village is also the starting point for numerous hikes to a plateau overlooking the entire Drôme valley. The village's paragliding school offers introductory courses and flights, enabling you to discover the breathtaking scenery from above.
