The village of Montoison dates back to around the 10th century. It was built on a north-facing rise of land, overlooking the Allex-Upie and Valence-Crest axes.
According to etymologists, the word Montoison is made up of the word Mont, which says what it means, and the Celtic radical AYS (or aïss), which refers to a spring or "gushing water".
Today, with over 2,000 inhabitants, Montoison combines the best of old-fashioned housing with numerous housing estates.
